Midweek Evening Show – ‘One Hit Wonder’ – 8th – 10th September 2020

On this week’s show our One Hit Wonder is another example of a side-project that was never returned to. The quite literally titled, Two Men, A Drum Machine And A Trumpet , was actually two members of another band Fine Young Cannibals who had a string of hits throughout the 80’s and 90’s. As well as his music career, lead singer Roland Gift also dabbled in acting. So whilst waiting for him to finish filming on the Sammy and Rosie feature, the other two members, David Steele and Andy Cox dipped their toes in to the Dance Music scene with this hit, Tired Of Getting Pushed Around.

Who knows, had Gift’s acting career been more successful, perhaps this side-project would have become the main event. As it stands, Fine Young Cannibals went from strength to strength on Gift’s return meaning that the two band members had both a taste of continued success and a One Hit Wonder on their C.V.s!

The song reached no 18 in the UK chart in 1987 sticking around for 8 weeks and also enjoyed significant airplay in the U.S. dance charts. Despite it’s success, it doesn’t appear to have made it’s way on to iTunes and Amazon but, if you’d like to hear it again, there’s a link to the video on YouTube, below.
