On The Weekend Evening Show this week, Alex Figgis will be sharing up-lifting and weird news stories, including how a technical glitch has resulted in mobile phones receiving strange messages; watching Christmas movies all year round is apparently good for our mental well-being; how one Vietnam vet has been able to retire, thanks to the kindness of his boss; and a possible answer to the world-wide problem of failing tarmac surfaced roads. Also, Mal Fletcher will be reflecting on the issues surrounding ageism and its impact on society. Classic Cuts by King’s X (‘Goldilox’) and Leona Lewis (‘Footprints In The Sand’) will be played on the show, as well as music from Heir, Sam Ock, Swedish House Mafia and PureNRG, to name but a few.

We’ve just added a bunch of new songs to our playlist so, as ever, we thought we’d let you know all about them! The seven new cuts feature three former Track of the Week songs including throwback ‘Garage’ with DJ Spoony’s reworking of Flowers, ‘Alt-Pop’ from Bastilleand Alessia Cara, and the UK Singer/Songwriter Gabrielle Aplin.

Tom Walker’s chart hit Better Half of Me makes its debut and we have two floor-filling dance tunes – one from Sigala and another from Galantis that features non other than Dolly Parton on vocals!

Bastille’s collaboration with Alessia Cara was Steve’s Track of the Week played just a few moments ago on the show. The track, Another Place, is actually a song from their last album, reworked with additional vocals from the Canadian singer-songwriter.

“I’d always heard ‘Another Place’ as a duet and wanted it to be a story told from two perspectives”, said Bastille’s Dan Smith. “It’s not something we’ve ever done, outside of our mixtapes, but we are huge fans of Alessia’s.”

‘Here, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty!’

Steve’s Track of the Week tonight at 7:15pm featured UK singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin with the thought-provoking love song, Like You Say You Do. Gabrielle has already featured on the Access playlist with Waking Up Slow and Panic Cord and this song is from her new album due out early next year called Dear Happy.
