You know that old saying, ‘Never meet your heroes’? Alan is one of them and, yet again for me, completely kicks the old saying out of the stadium! For several years, I have been hoping to meet Alan let alone interview him. Why? Well, when I was a young teenager, I would regularly go and watch my local professional football team. Alan was the captain of Luton Town who at the time were in the top English division. Many years later, I had heard that not only had Alan become a Christian but he was now a pastor of a leading church in Luton. How did this young man from Burnley, Lancashire become a Christian? What was it like for him to tell his teammates? What was it like being a Christian in a profession that until recently would query the player’s commitment and ethics to the game? Why did he become a pastor? What was it like having cancer treatment not once but twice? What is Luton like now since I moved away nearly 50 years ago? So many questions and what a privilege for me to have Alan as an inspiring and fantastic guest.
