This week’s OHW comes from 1992 and features the music of dance music producer Francis Wright aka Felix. Don’t You Want Me was a huge hit across Europe, spending 20 weeks in the UK chart and rising as high as No. 6 in the UK and topping the charts in Finland, Spain and Sweden.
Accompanying it was Felix’s UK album, #1, but depsite this reaching #26 in the UK charts, this was pretty much it for single success for Felix. Follow up releases reached 11 and 29 on the charts but then the name Felix disappeared from the charts completely.
The song had a brief revival a few weeks later as the soundtrack to a Tango TV advert that featured an ironic take on UK nationalism and British views of our French neighbours and still remains a staple of retro club nights today.
After a break from new releases for a number of years, we have had regular new music from Felix since 2015. However, nothing has quite caught the mainstream consciousness like this song and so makes it to our (almost) coveted One Hit Wonder feature!
As usual, we have included links, below, so you can listen again via YouTube and download via iTunes and Amazon.
